Benefits of Fencing Sport

Physical Challenge

  • Fencing can provide a fun way to stay fit or get in shape
  • Anaerobic Fitness; Fencing is an explosive start/stop sport where periods of high intensity activity are interspersed by periods of recovery.
  • Aerobic Fitness; Although fencing is predominately an anaerobic sport, your heart and lungs will get a good workout as you recover between the intense periods of activity and your body deals with the lactic acid that has built up within your muscles.
  • Helps losing weight, improved posture, improvedbody shape, cardiovascular fitness and Endurance, Muscular strength and stamina.
  • Improves Muscular endurance, Flexibility, Body composition of body weight which is fat muscle or bone, Speed, Agility, Balance, Power, Reaction time.
  • Co-ordination; Arms and legs have to work together in a harmonious fashion as you attack, defend and counter

After-School Program

Being a member of a sports club and regularly participating in sport will develop personal qualities:

  • Co-operation – working with others.
  • Competition – testing yourself against others
  • Physical Challenge – testing yourself against the environment or your best performances
  • Aesthetic Appreciation – recognizing quality of movement in a performance
  • Many great colleges have fencing teams and are always looking for experienced fencers.

    While scholarships are few and limited to top-level competitors, having fencing on your college resume provides you with another way for your child to market themselves.

It is a sport that emphasizes integrity and sportsmanship. Many colleges have fencing clubs and teams, and will actively recruit top fencers. Columbia University, Penn State University, Reed College, and the NCAA all offer fencing scholarships.

    • Learning this lesson early in life will pay off! It teaches self-responsibility because only the fencer can score a point. No one can do it for them. This is also one of the few sports that parents can learn along with their children!

    Social

    • Offers a dynamic circle of peers and mentors, meeting people/ making friends, leadership skills, Co-operation, working with others. Greater family attachment and more frequent interactions with parents; boosts friendships, and builds relationships with your peers and adults.

    Mental

    • Sports boosts self-confidence and mental concentration, greater self-esteem, Focus, Hand-eye coordination, Problem solving, you need to judge your opponent’s strategy and modify yours accordingly.
    • Reducing of: tension & stress related illness; depression, anxiety, psychological distress, emotional disturbance
    • When sports are played at the state or national level, they increase the players’ sense of belonging to their community or country. International sports events foster patriotism and a feeling of oneness among the team members of a country.
    • They are active and doing something, not being passive receptacles of computer games, internet use, television.
